Youth from Whispers Champion Youth Initiative CBO, in collaboration with Her Voice under the ONE Billion Rising-Kenya, took part in a neighborhood cleanup along Karanja Road in Kibra, Kenya, to commemorate Earth Day 2021.
This initiative was part of the larger Rising Gardens theme, which focuses on environmental conservation, particularly in areas that have been neglected or exploited.
Whispers Champion Youth Initiative CBO has been instrumental in transforming a once-bushy dumpsite, previously a haven for criminals, into a thriving garden. Here, they grow vegetables, practice Agroforestry, manage a nursery, and provide training on various farming techniques to the local community.
This transformation has not only improved the environment but has also uplifted the hopes of youth in the community, steering them away from social vices and towards a more sustainable future.
