About us

Who we are

We are a team of change-makers who believe that every helping hand can raise a child and create a better future for them.

Her Voice Kenya is a women-led organization working in violent-prone areas in Kenya to end Gender Based Violence in public spaces. We offer protection and shelter to victims of violence and influence behavioral change by instilling values

Her Voice Kenya was formed in the wake of the successful MyDressMyChoice peaceful demonstration, orchestrated by a group of concerned women who initially connected through social media.

Following the demonstration, these women recognized the urgent need for a platform to address issues affecting women’s safety and rights in Kenya. United by their passion for gender equality and spurred by the positive impact of their collective action, they formally established Her Voice Kenya.

Our approach

Our Mission
Our mission is to make sure all young people and children get all the support they need, when they need it, no matter what it is.
  • Rescue Missions: With the help of safe houses, we rescue survivors of domestic violence and settle them before they access justice and are ready to face the world again.
Our Vision
Promoting safe public spaces for all genders through effective communication and public engagement on gender-related issues.

To have Safe public spaces where men, women and children live in peaceful coexistence by making our voices heard and understood on matters that touch on gender through public appeal

HER VOICE Kenya

HER VOICE, where HER stands for Health, Empowerment, and Rights, is a women-led organization working to end violence in public and domestic areas.

Reforms of some laws

After MyDressMyChoice campaigns some laws were passed in parliament touching on GBV and Social issues.

Example of Laws

After the MYDRESSMYCHOICE Campaign, stripping which was under the Robbery with Violence Act, moved to the Sexual Offences Act through an act of Parliament.
#BreastfeedingIsARight Campaign, through the act of parliament managed to have a direction to have public places have designated breastfeeding areas for mothers and offices

Treatment and counselling

We have helped victims seek treatment, have the counselled, shelter them when necessary and empowered them when possible

Counselling & safety

In partnership with two safe houses, HER voice ensures survivors of GBV have a place to call home until they can be back on their feet.

Education fo girls

We strived to ensure some girls stay in school, promoting access to education and supporting their academic journey.

Girls in School

Since its inception in 2015, Her Voice has managed to put six girls in school, highlighting its commitment to education and empowerment.

Arrests and Charges

Some perpetrators have been arrested. Cases are still ongoing and we have court sessions.

Case Outcomes

Some victims have been charged recently.
HER voice has managed to have perpetrators of rape jailed.

Empowerment

We have started women's groups to empower women, providing them with a platform to enhance their skills, knowledge, and confidence.

Economic Empowerment

Because we discovered that most survivors of SGBV are not economically empowered, we decided to run empowerment programs with women in the community to ensure they know how to legitimately make money, save, and be self-sufficient.
